I have a chick that is 1 1/2 weeks old. It STILL has pasty butt!?!? How long do they usually have it? It is a silkie that I hatched.
Thanks for any help

Anyone? Is there a point when it "should" be gone?

usually till they r up to 1 mth old but it can stop before that too. if u use warm water in the waterer rather than cold water it helps to cut it down alot.

A few of mine had it when I got them, or a day or so after we got them... After I cleaned them up it never reoccured. I did grease their butts with a little olive oil when I got them cleaned.

I think that's a good idea. I was told to clean their little bums when it got that like that. The oil would keep the poo from sticking.

Usually by two week you don't see it anymore. Have you applied olive oil around the vent area after cleaning? If not then it will take longer. Olive oil will stop the clumping. Good luck

You can also trim some of the longer feathers/fluff away around the vent. Be very very careful to not nick the bird.

Yes I oil it's butt every day

Keep working at it. It will go away. I started giving mine yogurt and that seemed to help. It seems like one kept having a problem up to about 3 weeks.
