I have 15 hens and a rooster all seemingly very healthy and laying well. About half of the hens are showing what looks like pasty butt. Is this worms, mites? No other symptoms. As I say they appear healthy otherwise. They free range, grain feed, and locked up at night. thank you. I'm sure this is posted somewhere, but can't find anything.

It may just be poopy butts. You can have some combined droppings checked by a vet to look for coccidia and worms. When chickens drink a lot of water in warmer weather or if you feed some chicken feed mixed with water, they will have runny poops. The danger in warm weather is that flies can lay eggs in them, and there is a danger of fly strike. You can soak their bottoms in warm soapy water and wash them off pretty easily.

Thanks, as I said they seem happy and healthy, except for the dirty butts!
