I am a new chicken mom. I have 10 baby chicks. My rumpless tufted auracana has had pasty butt several times now. We have been gently wiping her bottom and cleaning her off. She is 4 days old. Now it appears that her vent is red, lightly bleeding and protruding. Any help on what to do? Really worried.

Also, all of my other chicks are still laying down to sleep, but she is standing up in the corner under the light with her feet extended to stand as tall as she possibly can. Not sure if it is because she is in pain or if she is possibly cold? All of the other chickens seem to be doing fine but they are different breeds.

You might want to seperate her from the others cause once it starts to bleed they will just keep pecking. So in order for it to heal you should seperate her. I don't really know what to do other wise. If she is doing that then she is cold.

I had a chick with what seems to be the same problem. He had a pasted vent and would strain with his eyes half closed whenever he was about to poop until he was about a month old. I put him off by himself, and he slowly got better.

I would put her off by herself, keep her vent clean, and try to be patient (which can be really hard).
