I got some silkie chicks on Saturday. Today I noticed a couple had pasty butt so I soaked it off. A couple others had some drops of poo on their bums. I’m worried it’s going to keep happening. So a.) How can I prevent it? and b.) is there an easier way to get the poop off? Anything I can use along with warm water? Their set up is a large tote with airflow through the top and a brooder plate. They’re on chick food (20%) and I just grinded it up. I’m just worried about their wellbeing so any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

When my chicks have pasty butt I use a warm wet hand towel and gently wipe it on the chick. Pasty butt can be caused by stress or if their broader is too hot of cold. Can I see a picture of your brooder?

I guess I turned off my thread notifications! Sorry about that!
I have the plate set at “heater”, although there is a “brooder” option. I’m thinking I’m going to turn the heat down to brooder and build a bigger brooder today.
