Hi!

We just picked up our chicks from an NPIP breeder on Saturday. 8 chicks, but one has had pasty bum everyday but it’s also sticking out? Breeder said they are 4ish days old.

My gut says prolapse, but I’m just not sure with baby chicks.

Ive cleaned it. No pain neosporin. And Veteriycn. She’s drinking but not eating so I made her a watery mash which she’ll drink the water out of. Added some honey from my bees and that helped her gobble some down.

She’s also tooting? Sounds like diarrhea. And it will come out so I know she can go, but I have to be on top of her or it’s pasted again.

Any ideas? Thank you so much! My heart is telling me to do everything for “tuna” but I know sometimes you just can’t with baby chicks.

Does your chick have diarrhea? (called Pasty butt). (MUST keep the rear clean! Use Warm water, Dry well)
If so, your chick NEEDS a Probiotic!
You can buy probiotic at the feed store
Or, you can do it nature’s way.
If your chick is from the feed store and not with mom, and,you have adult hens, get some of a hens poop and give it to the chick (contains GOOD probiotic!)
I realize this is gross to the squeamish, but nature provides the needs of the babies this way. Like a sick dog will eat grass, sick chicks will eat a hen’s poop.
When babies are not separated from mom, they go after this stuff! Provides what the starter mash cannot. POOP MUST BE FRESH!
The diarrhea goes away, your chick will then eat and gain the needed weight.
I’d this freaks you out, go to the feed store and get a probiotic. Remember, diarrhea and constipation are always issues of bad gut health! Fix the gut and you’ll have a healthy chick.
