Rather than a Q-tip, I used a toothbrush!! Wet of course! Brushed all the poop right off!! Didn't hurt the baby at all!!

Ewww I just had the most revolting thought.

i usually dont catch it till it becomes crusty but and i just trim the feathers around the but and that usually fixes it for good (not enough for the chickens but to look bald)

I plunked the fuzzbutt - just the little pasty bottom - into warm water in the bathroom sink (the brooder was, after all, in the bathroom so it was handy) and used a soft washcloth to rub off the gunk.

Then I fluffed the chick up real nice and put her back under the heat lamp. All fine!

Ouch! Wouldn't a toothbrush hurt a bit--you'd have to use the one with super soft bristles.....I use warm water and a bounty paper towel, and soak it a bit and it comes off. I don't trim the booty because then the bare bottom attracts the other chicks to that area and the little bare bum can get pecked at.....

I remember my grandma ripping off the pasty poo

Feathers and all! I guess that's one way to make sure it doesn't happen again
