Pasty Butt?

One of my week old chicks came down with pasty butt. I washed the area as clean as I could, but she seems to have diaper rash. What causes this? The other 29 chicks seem fine. What else can I do for her? Iʻm sorry to say that my Dadʻs response would be "Some chicks just wonʻt make it", but I hate to take that as an answer. Help!

I would trim around the butt to keep it clean and put some vasaline on it to make the poop drop off and not stick.

Good luck but keep in mind your can also be right about this. Sometimes it happens and nothing we do can fix it or cure it.

I fed sugar water the first two days only along with Gro Gel on their crumbles, then plain water only for 3 days and now I have started vitamin supplements with "Quick Chick" in the water. Could any of this be a problem? I also have added chick grit into their food at a 20-1 ratio.

Obviously, Iʻm trying to give them the best care possibe (you are what you eat), but they just look at me funny when I ask them what else could I do.
