Does this look like pasty butt or something else? Would this be the umbilical cord? It looks like it's a little lower than the vent but I'm not sure. I'm only about 6 hours into chick ownership so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bit too blurry to tell, I'm sorry. Any chance of a better pic?
It does look slightly lower than the vent, but to me it appears higher than the umbilicus. Could be wrong though.
Is it stuck to the fluff or is it on the skin? It looks almost like an abrasion to me.
Sorry I can't help more,
Erica

Edit:
Warm water and soft picking will remove pasty butt. Then dry the chick lightly with a warm (not hot) hairdryer before putting back in the brooder and keeping an eye on the butt.

Looks like the umbilicus to me...doesn't look like it's interfering with the vent at all, anyways.
I'd leave it alone. As long as you can see the vent clearly, pulsating or doing it's thing-you're golden.

don't mess with the umbilical, as it could cause dangerous bleeding if you pick at it or anything!

Ok, Thanks! I'll keep an eye on it.
