How do you do it your first time? My husband and I just got our first round of eggs yesterday from a friend who has a really successful flock that's been bred for being really gentle and good layers (they are mutts, with Buff Orphington, Speckled Sussex, Ameracauna, uhmmm... Yeah, and a couple of other things back in the woodwork, my husband has the full list kicking around somewhere *laughs*) and we've got 20 more days..

I'm already obsessively watching the eggs (not touching them, just staring in the window of the Hoverbator, don't worry

What do *you* all do while you're waiting (or did you do before you had a flock to keep you entertained and busy while you waited

) for the hatching???

I have officially told myself I'm not allowed to look again until after my daughter goes to bed (45 minutes, 45 minutes, 45 minutes

)... Wow, and I have 7 days less than you to wait!!!!

(I can't believe how entertained I am by watching what was once just a breakfast food slowly tilt back and forth in a Styrofoam box with a heater inside it)...

Have you candled them yet, or if not when are you planning too?

Yep - watching those eggs is like watching the ultimate slow-cook breakfast

Welcome and good luck with your hatch! We've not done the incubator thing yet, but I've got my eye on some banty blue orps or old english come spring once this group of girls is laying...
