maybe he has bothYou just said the hens had rose combs, you can't turn them into barred rocks. Barred rocks have straight combs, doms have rose combs.
Quote: Hey WV,
Make, Shape and Style identifies the breed.
Color (and/or comb in some ie, leghorn) makes the variety
Rocks are way much heavier (almost 3 lbs) , longer than Doms and have a flatter shoulder and a relatively low tail 30 degrees cock/ 20 on hen (like flat and broad) with just a "slight" sweep
Doms should be rather compact (labeled med length) with a FULL sweep to tail with long, well-curved sickles -- 45 degrees for both cocks AND hens.
Just trying to help with getting the breed ID's right -- most folks just want some chick'ns (sic) and that is fine but for anyone that may be really trying to learn and/or want to breed to SOP we owe them the chance to do so and not mis-lead. I learn somethings (many =:~) new or somethings old, but better, everyday just because someone took the time and risk to offer.
