OK, so looking to make trellis's for my peas an beans this year. I had in mind using HANDY PANELS which are 48" high and 8ft long with 4"x4" squares as a fence style trellis they cost $16.99ech

Option 2. Use concrete wire mesh that is normally used for laying down an pouring concrete over to strengthen concrete pads an such, which would be 5ft high by 10ft long with 6"x6" squares as a fence style trellis and they cost $9.90ech

I guess my main concern is the difference in the 4"x4" square vs the 6"x6" for the peas an beans to climb an obviously the price.

Whats the thoughts?

Are you going to be making arches with the panels? And are they going to be permanent or moved every year? if moving consider the weight difference/unwieldiness of each. Actually pick up and feel the weight of them before making a decision.
In my opinion the 6" or 4" spacing would barely be a consideration. its easy enough to run a string or wire to make more uprights on these type of panels.

I would go with the cheaper concrete mesh in that case. You could do 2 for almost the same price as the handy panels. As long as the mesh is actually welded/wired at the joints. Also consider transport. Do you have a vehicle capeable of hauling a 5'x10' panel? fitting a 4'x16' cattlepanel in the back of my small truck took some ingenuity. And an extra set of hands.

Yea i got a good buddy

Either option should be fine. I plant my peas just behind my run, so they trellis up the chain link run fence. To keep new sprouts from flopping over, I strung some bird netting between some bamboo stakes, so the peas can climb up that for the first 12" or so, then latch onto the chain link.

One concern with using wire mesh as a trellis for any garden produce is will the product cut itself into if it grows inside a mesh. Obviously with beans and peas neither of yours would be a problem. A 4x4 might with certain tomatoes. A 2x4 mesh is not good for cukes or tomatoes but would work for beans and peas. I learned the hard way.

Another thought. How easy will it be to get to each side of that trellis? You can stick your hand through a 6" opening easily to pick produce on the other side. You probably can with a 4x4 but I don't have any handy to try. I grow my beans on a fence with a 2x4 or one with 1-1/2" openings. I have to go on each side to pick them. On mine, not a big deal. Would it be for you?
