I currently house 8 chicks,1duck and 10 ducklings all together in a covered 12' x 10' run and a 5'x6'x10' coop in my shed. The coop is multi level the chicks stay up top on the upper levels and roost and the ducks in the bottom. I have linoleum on the floors and the poop tray's in coop. I use a mix of 3" of sand then 4-6" of wood chips then finish with a fine layer of straw...(ducks are so messy now I know why there called water FOUL.)
Out in the covered run I use construction sand and trenched around the outside and layed river rock for drainage. Once every few weeks I rake the run and add a couple shovels fresh sand. The worst is always around water bucketts and feeders. I live in PA so this will be our first winter with animals. can't wait to see what fun issues arise that I have to figure out this season.
