Peachick above ground pens? Pics Please!!

The brooder barns were the best things we ever built. I would suggest multiple sizes to accommodate various ages and sizes. We brood chicks to two weeks in shallow 75 gallon rubbermaid containers with wire tops. They then go in 36" x 36"sections for two weeks, the into 36" x60" sections for two weeks and then into 48" x 60" or 54" x 72" sections for 4 weeks. We use 1/2" by 1/2" wire floors (get coated wire if you can but galvanized works fine and we have never had hurt feet on it).

Can I keep different age chicks together in the same pen, or will the older ones peck them? When they grow out to be put in ground pens, can I put different ages together?

How do I see the pictures? I have six baby peacocks in the brooder now and would like to have a wire-floored pen ready for them. Also would like to see pictures of runs!

You can mix an age range of up to two weeks. Any larger range and you get some picking and possible crushing. We also separate the light birds from the darker birds. We have experienced darker birds feather picking the white birds.

There are no runs. Our birds don't hit the ground for some time. We used to go four months on concrete flooring but now put them on the ground at two months. We are incredibly fastidious about cleaning those pens including ground burning.

You should be able to go to my profile page and see the pictures.
