I have a peachick that is about 3 months old. At 1 month old I saved it from drowning in a horses water bucket. It stunted growth a bit but it's been doing fine. I was shocked when I realized it was a live and gave it mouth to beak after I shook the water out of it.
Now it's doing something very strange and it's 2 siblings aren't doing it. They are healthy and so is the Mom. This chick seems to stretch it's neck and continue to open and close it's mouth. It moves it's head around like a snake going in a circular motion then stops. Almost like it wants to make a sound or swallow.
I have the chick in a cage with food and water and a lamp in my bathroom. It ate the pieces of grapes I gave it so that was good. It has bright eyes, face looks fine and so does the body other then the wings a bit droopy but not much. Very slight. I squished its crop and it was sloshy and gurgly. Very odd. After all the squishing it pooped just a little and it was white with what looked like a corn kernel size thing. It could have been a kernel but it was darkish in the white goop. Breathing wise it does sound a bit raspy.
I gave it some chick starter grower and started the chick on Metronidazole with Praziquantel.
Has anyone had a chick that had these symptoms and if so how did you treat it? Love to know more. I'm hoping what I'm giving the chick will work. If it has a respiratory issue should I give it a shot of penicillin?
I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks. ~ Chris
