Peachick not doing so well...

Nope, I don't have that or any Karo syrup on hand. I've seen that type of syringe before.. Science class maybe lol... Not sure where I could get one. I could look around tomorrow. She's been standing and moving around just little baby steps, I think having her brother and sister in there with her is helping. They started eating and probably drinking, maybe she'll follow...

I haven't seen that article, thank you! Very helpful. I will look around for pipettes and Karo syrup tomorrow. The white syrup or dark?

Sugar works just fine, i use 1/4th cup sugar per cup of water, i put the solution in a tea spoon and hold the spoon up to the pea beak and let it rest in the spoon of liquid, the baby will take little sip at a time when the beak gets wet, i have done this many times with guineas ,ducks, chickens, guineas, geese and peas, it works, they will take a bit at a time if they can hold their head up that is why i give them the solution every 30 minutes till they perk up.

On the eye make some real soapy water using baby shampoo. Wipe real gently with quite wet rag just to remove the crust. Gen Teal makes an eye gel and drops for dry eyes. Might try rinsing the eyeball with liquid gen teal then put the ointment in it is suppose to protect from the scratching effects. This does not have any antibiotics in it if eye looks infected though. Maybe that will help prevent an infection or eye damage from the sand that might of gotten in it. I have crust in my eyes every morning sometimes one or both eye completely stuck shut. This has been my best method of relief. Always seems a crusty gets in and the scratching before it breaks down then can scratch or irritate the cornea and damage the eye. No use using antibiotics unless it does get infected. Good luck we know your baby is in the best hands.

Mixed up some sugar water first thing this morning and gave it to her, she drank a couple sips then drank some regular water. Both eyes were open. Went outside for an hour or so, came back in and tried again. She didn't want to drink it this time and her eye was stuck shut again. She's peeping and looking around for her brother and sister and they're staying close by her. Poor thing I hope she gets to feeling better soon. Will try again with the sugar water every half hour or so.

Can you use a saline solution like whats used cleaning contact lenses? Soapy water seems harsh to me,,and would cause the eye to water and possibly burn. Is she eating anything? Evidently if the eyes still matting shut there is dirt someplace down in the lower eyelid you cannot see. It needs to be flushed out and depending on what it is(particle of sand) it can scratch the eye itself. Amazingly in peoples eyes they heal very fast,,found this out the hard way years ago when camping, my daughter flicked a hot ash into her eye from a stick that had hot embers on the end from being in the firepit,,went to emergency room, they flushed it good, gave us some ointment and 3 days later all was good.the attending on call Dr told us the eye cells heal very, very fast compared to other cells in the body.I'd imagine in peafowl it would be the same since wild animals depends on the sense of sight so much.
PS,,put the Opals in "Time Out"

She is doing MUCH better. I was able to soften up that last little bit of goop/crust and get it out of her eye, and she's been better since. Both eyes have been open, she's been walking around. I saw her eat! So that's good. I will probably give her a couple more sips of sugar water tonight. :)

Thank you guys for the help. Mostly just listening to me worry, but still! Thank you. :)

I told ya,,half the battle for breeders is getting them to hatch,,and the other half of the battle is getting them to 6 mos of age,,,which is now in your court. It's evidenced now your Opals don't play well with others. No treats for them bullies!! Your Opals wasn't in the same brooder that your "Thangs' and BSSP chicks was in,,Opals ruled the brooder they was in,mainly because of their size.I don't have a "bullying" problem here,,,,yet. My numbers are going down on peachicks which is making things less crowded but soon,,,,,and I mean soon I'm going thru what I'm going to keep and hide them.
