Peachick # 4 isn't doing so well. the 2 slightly older ones are doing fine, and the 3 siblings are doing fine too, but this one seams to be wasting away. I have tried feeding it boiled egg yolks, and it did try to eat some, but thats about it. its about 10-14 days old. its getting quite weak. I've got it on some super booster (electrolytes& vitamins but also an antibiotic), unfortunately i can't find just the electrolytes/vitamin mix. its not eating or drinking much. I have to do something other wise it will be dead by morning at the latest i think.

I have syringe fed chickens& turkeys in the past and am going to try that with him (dipping his beak just doesn't seam to be cutting it). any suggestions what i should feed? mash slurry? or just try the electrolyte water? maybe add some honey? I didn't see any obstructions when i looked in his throat.

Any help would be appreciated!

HI Syble, sorry your having trouble.

I'll help if I can, but first a few questions...

1. Is it Pooping? Is it watery??

2. When did it begin to lag? How long has it bee off?

3. Are its eyes clear? Does it have nasal drainage?

4. Has it had a chance to be outside, or near the waste of other birds? Has it easton anything dead?

5. Is it still with the others? IF yes, remove it too its own brooding box at once, to avoid spreading illness. I'll check back.

I'm new to peas but would say that anything else when very sick they recommend electrolytes. It's almost impossible when they are sick to get them to drink. With my dogs I always had to use a syringe, but a dog with pancreatitous it saved many times. If you can get the little fellow stable then maybe others can give you directions in why he is sick and what to do. Good luck.

Its separate now, it was in a table top brooder away from most things. I've been working alot so i'm not 100% sure when it started. peachicks always look wimpy to me (I'm used to indestructible chicks), eyes are clear as are nose. it has its moments where it is very alert, and other times where its drowsy. its not pooping that i see, but its not taking anything in either. bellys not hard so i don't believe hes bound.

I'm sorry syble. Peachicks, like turkeys, are very delicate creatures, and prone to dying suddenly without much warning. I myself lost one of my very special show turkey babies just the other day, and they are 3 weeks out of the egg allready.

Are all the others still A+? Sometimes, if they have heart or digestive issues, as they grow, the stress on the system is just too much. You might give a single round of vitamins/electorlytes to the others, just to bolster the old immunity.

they seam ok, I'd of course like to see them more robust. I've got turkeys down pretty good, once i get them started i don't seam to loose any, but peafowl, they're just soo different. I think he must have had issus swallowing, he seamed to struggle with it today. just sucks when you get them through that first week, you think your good then bam, dies on ya. of course it was my black shouldered one too :( I still have 2 so fingers crossed that nothing else stupid happens and i don't loose them.
