I'm currently hatching my first set of peachicks. They're currently in the incubator because a friend's peahen wouldn't sit, so she gave them to me. There were three of them but one was infertile and one looks promising and I know there's one in the last egg because I saw it move when I was candling it. So I have a few questions. I've raised ducklings and chickens but this is my first experience with peafowl.
1) If, for some reason, only one hatches out can I put a chick or a duckling with it until I'm able to find another peachick? Or would it be alright alone? (I hate leaving babies alone though).
2) When it's older can I put them with my chickens/ducks? All my fowl are free ranged during the day, but they are placed in a fairly large stall in the barn at night because we've had raccoon problems. I've heard some people say that you shouldn't put them with chickens but other people say they've always had them with chickens. (I'm not talking about fighting, I have six young hens that never fight. I've heard that chickens can carry things that will kill peafowl).
3) Is the brooding temperature about the same as chickens? Or ducks?
thanks for all of your help! I'm waiting anxiously. (Only 9 long days left!)
