I need to get a photo of this peachick...Ice has lost all of her other peachicks due to them wandering too far out of the pen and probably getting eaten by hawks except for this one peachick. First it had something happen to its foot and it limped for a bit but now it is better. Now the bump on its face will not go away! This happened to some of the other peachicks and I figured the mosquitoes were just bitting them. All of them had their bump go away on their face but this peachick still has the bump and it looks larger. The bump is near the eye but not covering the eye at all. The chick acts normal and is healthy other than the bump. Is this one of those growths and will I have to cut it out? I should get a photo of it today. I feel sorry for this peachick for all it has been through. I was hoping that the bump would go away but it has had the same amount of time as the others to lose it and it hasn't so I figure it is something else... Well I will try and get photos.

sorry you lost most of your peas, i know snakes and squirles get the guinea keets here when they can not keep up with momma
Get a photo of the peas bump, it is most likely pox, that can take weeks to clear up, last year quite a few of my birds got pox, this year the mosquitos are worse and i have had no outbreaks but i did learn a whlie back that flies can also give them the pox or at least aid in the spread of it.

Is the bump under the eye (possible sinus issue)? Have you felt it to see if it was hard or soft? Does it look more like a "wart"? Is the chick making noises when it breathes?

A picture would be helpful.

I can sympathize with your losses. I had four pea chicks in an enclosed brroder pen on the back porch which is enclosed with screen. I left the screen door cracked for the cats to get out of the rain. A racoon came onto the porch and snatched a peachick piece by piece thru the brooder pen screen. If the cat had not made a fuss, he might have gotten them all.

So it will clear up on its own? That is good to know. Yeah this year the mosquitos have been pretty bad. It is probably from all the rain we are getting this summer. It has mainly been affecting the peachicks and not the adults. As for the missing peachicks, I didn't know squirrels would kill guinea keets! We have grey squirrels all over the place and they are always visiting the pen but all I have seen them after was some of the sunflower seeds I feed the peafowl. The squirrels do get those bot flies sometimes but I don't think that is what this is. I hope the peafowl never get a bot fly. Well I am sort of in the same boat as this peachick. Right now I have a stye on my eyelid that won't go away. I have had to pop it several times but it isn't going away easily so I might have to get some medication for it. Although my stye isn't as big as the bump on this peachick.

No the bump isn't under the eye, it is to the side of the eye like near the corner. It looks more like a wart and the peachick is very healthy acting. It doesn't act like anything is wrong and it runs around and stuff like any other peachick. I will get a picture of it. ;)

The bump on the chick's face looks a bit different then it did. I saw it scratch at the bump. I think it has scratched all the feathers off because there used to be feathers over the bump.

Poor little guy.

I'm sure someone here must have seen something like that before? It really does look like a wart.
It's good that he doesn't have any other symptoms, anyways.

Well it is not pox, looks like a growth of some kind, i have seen growths on animals as well as people that are the shape of pencil erasers, all different size on them also but i can not recall what they are called.
