Hello all!

I will be posting this thread under both the "Peafowl" and "Guineas" sections as I hope to get information from both sources!

I have 6 peachicks, and 50 guinea keets, born on Tuesday, June 24th. (10 days old now, today, 7/4). I have everyone in brooders right now, but soon will need to put the keets out in the coop, because they get to be little hellions and they don't have to be brooded nearly as long as peas.

I'm going to be building a covered coop with a concrete floor so my peas can go out of the brooders before they hit four months with less risk of Cocci than being out on the dirt. Unfortunately, I can't build *two* exorbitant coops.

So, my first question is, can the peachicks live in the same environment as guinea keets? I have heard that keets carry Cocci from hatching, so will they infect my peas? Do they carry Blackhead? Will they hurt the peas, I know they can be mean little buggers. I have many years experience with the keets, but this is my first year raising the peas at the same time.

Thank you for your help!

What I meant was you don't need to worry about your keets infecting your peafowl. Your peafowl can still get it, just not from the keets. If you're putting them on concrete that's never had other poultry on in, you shouldn't have to worry about blackhead either.

Okay, thank you Kathy. So they won't make the peas sick, at least by Cocci? Are there any other foreseeable problems?

Nope, the concrete will be freshly laid sometime this week. We are sloping it with a drain to be sprayed/scrubbed when needed.

Another question -

I finally got the Corid in the mail. I am currently feeding the peas the 24% non-medicated starter, with the preventative dose of Corid in their water. They are eating a million times better, but eating crumbles off the damp finger is still their absolute favorite. That was godsend advice.

If I have them in the coop together, should I put the preventative dose of Corid in the water so everyone is getting it? I researched that Corid prevents/cures all 9 strains of Cocci, while Sulmet only covers 2 and is much harder on the birds. Or would that be needless medication?

I have been raising my keets and peas together since i got my first ones back in 2010, never had a problem with either of them being together i found them to be a bonus in the pen as they encourage newly hatched pea chicks to eat different things.
