Well I built a new home for my peafowl. Watched them very close picked out who was friendly with who and put them in a pen. All was ok for a few days, now my white peacock buttermilk is chasing the peahen. Then when I went in in and removed her now he walks the fence all upset. Should I have left them together ? I don't want anyone hurt. Also they lived all together since hatching with no problems. I feel like I changed the dynamics of the group and don't know what to do to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's quite normal in the very beginning of the mating season .

When arrive the first eggs in your area? ( here when lilac tree flowered ).
They can be separated for a week .... but it's better if they see each other!
Maybe the rooster in the pen and the hen free ... she will not go .... she will stay around!

Boys have been chasing girls since the dawn of time, lol........as it is spring, if you are quite certain of their genders, I would not be alarmed by some chasing.

Ok I will put her back in and watch close, he was pecking at her, but no blood or anything. They are going to be 2 in August so I didn't think they could breed yet. Here are some pics of both will get better ones and post soon.

Here is the peahen. This will be my first spring to get eggs if I get any, so I am not sure when I will get any. My 6 year old purples laid in the winter but the eggs were no good. Hope this doesn't delay the breeding season.

Pecking is not good, that is not "boy chasing girl". That's aggression.

If they grew up in the same *brood*- not different ages put together, perhaps something happened she panicked and landed on him by accident and he took offense.. or it could be simple upset by change in flock dynamics.

Some peacocks just don't like black shoulder or white peahens and will be aggressive towards them while being perfect gentlemen with blue peahens.

he may settle down and not be aggressive towards her.

they are old enough to produce a few fertile eggs this year.

Ok I changed them around now they are happy as can be. Switched one black shoulder for another and he was ok. I don't know what happened but now they are content. I will hope for eggs from these groups, but won't "count my eggs before they hatch" so to speak. Thank you everyone for the advice.

You can buy a ring that each end goes into each nostril and the loop goes between the beak so they cannot fully close their beaks together and do harm. Breeding season is upon us and the peacocks demeaner changes a lot with some birds. My bssp pen has 5 hens and my male Roadtrip. These 6 birds has been together the past 2 years yet he always picks on both the pied hens that was already here when he and the other 3 hens came. Guess they will never be in his or their "click" but all 5 hens has excellent hatchrates. When they fly off their perches he's down and after them until they fly back up to the perch. He too will peck at them until they get away from him.
