Hi all, my 4 year old peacock sitting on ground with one eye completely closed. He’s very quiet and not making any noise like he usually does at this time of year. He rarely just sits in the ground like this, usually sits up on his perch especially when he gets home to his enclosure in the late afternoon. He got home very late and I hadn’t heard him all afternoon, was getting worried actually. He was totally fine this morning. No sign of injury, nor any swelling or redness around eye, it just looks closed.

This is a respiratory infection. To treat it, I use Linco-Spectin as an antibiotic and provide Vitamin AD3E supplementation. Additionally, it is important to clean the eyes, which can be done using a saline solution or a solution of Epsom salt with water, followed by the application of eye drops.

Please note that different antibiotics may be available in your area. However, Linco-Spectin has been effective for me here in Bahrain.

I hope your peacock recovers soon!
