Peacock... I really, really want one!

ALL MY LIFE I have loved peacocks. I remember their cries from the hillcountry of Texas where I spent summers.

What are their needs? What kind of an enclosure do they need? Peacock people, please help!

1. Need a high protien feed, 24 to 28 %
2. 6 ft high pen with a top 10x20 for a trio of breeders
3. Wormed 3 times a year
Peachicks best started on wire first months and started on a medicated starter.

You are in a state with two of the best breeders in the USA.

Peafowl just about the same as raising Turkey.

Peafowl only eat about amount a chicken would eat.

Peafowl come in lots of colors and pattern.

Could be 185 varieties.

In mild climate the enclosure can be like a shed type thing on one end with the rest all wire/netting.

Deerman gave the minimum size for adult tri0.. if they are intended to stay in all the time, the bigger is better. They are big birds and like to walk a lot.

Yes Kev is right, that size i gave would be ok for 2 yr old breeders, my breeder pens for 3 yr old breeders are 12 x 36.

We had 6 about 5 years ago. They are so beautiful. I want some more too! I gave all mine to a man close to here though. Ours wouldn't stay in their enclosure and liked to roam and roost over our bedroom so we just gave them to someone who could keep them contained.

I had bags of feathers and made a display on our wall of a peafan. So beautiful....all this peafowl talk on here makes me want to go out and get some more!!

What you waiting for?

There are netting for game birds.. comes in all sizes and a lot of people use them as tops for large pens. Peafowl can stay in pens permanently, no problem. Most of mine are(and in the pen sizes Deerman mentioned too).

Yes all mine are always penned, in breeding penned in spring. During the fall and winter all house in one large flight pens 14 ft high with barn inside flight. Extra male are even pen together, during breeding season.
