We have a 1-2 year old peacock who has lately seemed to peck and split our chickens eggs that are in the nesting boxes, sometimes he just pecks and splits them, other times he pecks, splits, and then eats the actual inside of the egg.

Is this normal for a peacock? Is there something wrong with him? Could maybe something in the coop be making him behave this way?

Somehow he had access to a broken egg, and now he knows that they taste good. He may well teach your hens to egg eat, and if you have a peahen, he may break and eat her eggs.

With chickens it can be extremely difficult to stop. Hard/artificial nest eggs, frequent collection of eggs, and the use of Pin Less Peepers if all else fails - sometimes work. @casportpony any experience with egg eating peafowl?

It is fairly rare for peahens to eat eggs unless they have already been broken. When I collect eggs and find a cracked or soft shell egg I usually toss it in the food bowl and have not had any hens start breaking eggs on their own. Maybe I am just lucky but so far I have not had any problems.

I do have a Lady Amhurst cock that will break and eat every egg he sees so I use a laying box with a roll-down compartment to keep the eggs safe. I was told to trim his beak back to the quick and put golf balls in the boxes.
