Our new peafowl are setting in nicely and the male has been doing his dance for the girls - so pretty! Anyway, spring is in the air, and I have a feeling we'll have some peahen eggs before long.

What are the tricks of the trade as far as providing a nest box for them? One person told us that you need to take away their roost so they won't lay eggs up there and have them drop to the ground...does that make sense to you guys with peafowl??

Just looking for some newbie advice. At the moment they have a roost but no nest box of any kind. They do have a dirt/ground floor in the shelter and access to graze around in their pen.

And, now just a gratuitous shot of our peacock showing off for the ladies.

Hey BikerBabe - I tried to PM you but your box is full.

I do have the run covered - you can't see the netting in the pic from so far away, but it's covered with bird netting over PVC pipe arcs. I ran the netting all the way over the top of the shelter and then connected to the arcs also that are in the more open part of the pen.

This thread shows how I did it on my chicken run. The only difference is I used electrical conduit PVC type rather than plumbing PVC for the peafowl - it's a bit cheaper and no fittings to glue.

OK...I admit it...I changed the title of the thread to make ya look at that pretty peacock tail!

Anyone have advice on the nest box? I just need an idea of how large/dimensions, etc. The websites I found just say 'a tire or box' but don't say how large or what shape, how high or what.
