Hello! I am new to keeping peafowl. Our peahen has been happily sitting on 3 nice looking eggs for the past 5-7 days. The daddy peacock has been continuing to display for her quite vigorously- backing him self up into her as she is sitting on the eggs. This is his first season with full plumage. This morning I heard the hen crying / honking and I went out to see what was happening. He had chased her off the eggs and seemed intent on "engaging" with her (if you know what I mean). Later I heard her crying again. I went out and saw he was chasing her and an egg had been broken.

Do you think I should remove him from the pen so she can sit on her remaining 2 eggs in peace? Will she be sad and upset without him in the pen? She has always been penned. He was allowed to free range but always stayed fairly near her. He wanted back in the pen in mating season. Any ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated! She only has 2 eggs left and I don't want anymore broken. Thanks!

Seperate them with a screen or poultry netting so they can’t engage each other, but can see and talk to each other.

If you can lean a pallet against the wall over her that would help but his job is done. If she is setting I would toss him out or risk the other eggs to being broken too. If it was earlier in the season I would take the eggs and hope that she would lay some more, as it is I would give her a chance to salvage what is left.
