Peacock with broken toe??

Aw he looks tuckered out! It's funny, I did so much research about guardian animals and I never saw anything about how protective peacocks are. I had a duckling with some medical issues and every time I had to catch him, my peacock went bonkers...

Ours regularly break up fights among the chickens, it's so funny. And if we have a chicken in the the tractor, there's always a peacock close by to protect it, especially if it's a hen with chicks.

What I am getting from this conversation is that I should get a peacock if I want to free range XD Hmmm, cyotes though...

Well I would say, they certainly help with smaller or more easily intimidated predators, and mostly just during the day. Our biggest threat here are neighborhood dogs who are mostly looking for something to play with. Something that was hungry enough probably wouldn't be spooked by them
The reason they help is because they are too dumb to realize that the predator could easily kill them and they fly at it screaming bloody murder.
My peahens are mean to the other birds though :/

We don't have too many skunks but I've smelled them and I can't imagine if one of my birds got sprayed. Bleh! My cat got sprayed once but we could bathe him...

Funny, because she DIDN'T get sprayed.

I was in the barn at the time and I actually screamed when she rushed at the skunk all puffed up. But it just looked at her and walked away. Our skunks here are used to us...and the birds, too, lol.
