Peafowl 201: Further Genetics- Colors, Patterns, and More

Pics
Hello sorry I'm not that great with genetics need help please; I'm just curious what an opal male and a opal Spaulding female will give you. I'd imagine it's mostly true opals and some lower percentage Spaulding in some chicks.??

... Exactly!
To dilute the "Spalding" ... it does not make sense!
From 50% of green blood it starts to influence the phenotype of the bird!

What is a spalding ...
1 - different colors ... female spalding are different from female cristatus! To be spalding for a female is a chance!
2 - the feather type is different ... more and more "scales" feathers.
3 - THE style spalding .... more elegant birds!

This is an Opal hen.

These are two Opal hens.

Opal Silver Pied cock and hen, two Opal hens in the next pen on the same roost.

Opal Black Shoulder cock.

The birds in the ad you are looking at do not appear to be Opal but India Blue. I would pass on them, the pics are blurry and the cock might be carrying White Eye, but he isn't a good White Eye if he is White Eye. This time of year a mature IB hen is worth $150 and a yearling IB cock $50 to $75 in my area.

Unfortunately that seems to be getting more and more common. "Java Spaldings" and "Green Spaldings" are two terms that I've seen used to up the price tag on relatively ordinary birds.

Java spalding and green spalding .... It's nomined badly!
Spalding is always associated with the name of a color mutation in the species Pavo cristatus.
By IB (Pavo cristatus) there is no color green .... sake my life on it !
Spalding = %tage of green blood = hybrid.

So there is BLUE Spalding .... CAMEO Spalding .... CHARCOAL Spalding .... etc ...
