Peafowl & chickens

I said something stupid in front of my children a few weeks ago while visiting a local farm, a farm that just happened to have a peacock. I said "When we move into our new house we should get a peacock!" Insert foot in mouth! My kids have not stopped talking about it since then. So, one of the many questions I have is this.... Can you house peafowl with chickens? I have been doing some research and learned that peafowl need more space and different feed but do they get along with chickens? Also, are peafowl solitary or do they require companionship? If so, will chickens do?

Any info would be appreciated.

Peafowl need a more pen space but some chicken coops like mine were big enough to hold both. Bu there's a couple problems. 1st is the nutrition. Laying chickens should not have protein above 18% and peafowl can survive off of that but will not do as well as they could on a 20% protein. Peafowl are social creatures and need some sort of a friend. When I lost a peahen and my male was all alone he called a lot so I had my male with an old bantam hen that stopped laying years ago and they got a long fine. Once I got a peahen for him again I moved the chicken out of the peafowl pen. Now my chickens are separate from my peafowl. The other problem that can occur but more on the rare side is diseases being shared. Peafowl can get diseases from chickens and the other way around. Then of course peafowl that are free range come in contact with other animals. That's why it's more of a rare thing but can happen.

Build a big pen for them, worm them every 2 months and they should be fine. Make the pen as big as you could, and if it was me i will only keep few chickens with them.
