Peafowl Help Please!!

How long does it take a peafowl to hatch. I read it took 27 days. I hit the 27 "day" mark last night. There isn't even a pip. I'm beginning to worry about my little guy..

Do peafowl make noise when the hatch?

At what point would you "help"? I know helping isn't always ideal, but I help my chicks and quail that start to struggle much later in the hatch. I have only ever lost one because of helping(in my first hatch ever), but I have saved several quail and chickens.

I appreciate any response. I'll be back on as often as I can today, because I'm getting pretty anxious..

Peachicks are notoriously hard to hatch. It takes 28 days usually, but is a wider range than chickens.

They are famous for pipping up in the air cell, looking great and then dying in the shell.

I just had three eggs look great when I candled them before putting in the hatcher, and only one actually hatch - the other two died after getting in the air cell.

Personally, from now on, I'm candling them and if they are in the air cell but no pip within 24 hours, I'm going to drill a small air hole in the air cell end of the egg using an awl or sharp mini-screwdriver. I think they are just using up all the air in the egg and suffocating before they can make that pip in the shell to get more air.

I'm fairly new at hatching them, but I have a friend who has hatched 100s of them over the years and he says that this is very common scenario. He never helps his out, but then again he sets 1000s of eggs a year. I only set a few and want as high a hatch rate as possible and don't mind baby sitting these eggs.

Mine have taken as long as 30 days to hatch.

Just lost one last night that pipped on the side.

I gave him about 24hrs and he seemed stuck, I tried to help, but I don't know if I was too late, or too early. He never bled alot, but I did uncover alot of active blood vessels. I kept him wet, but maybe I chilled him

We have quite a few that are fully developed but never pip.

My condolences. I had to help a chick out too that later died. They are so delicate. When you get a few that are successful you should really thank God.
