Okay so first of all...I thought I might see my peafowl matting today and I was right. I was in the pen and heard that matting chase call and looked up to see Dragon (my four year old pied peacock) chase Pip (two year old IB peahen). They matted and poor Alto (two year old peacock) who is so close to Pip (he follows her around, sticks up for her, they preen each other, ect) ran up to see what was going on. He almost seemed sad or something...Poor thing I know he liked her although so did Dragon. Pip is like the guys favorite. She is my favorite too cause she is so short and cute!
Anyways...Hooray this means eggs!

Last year was horrible for hatching eggs...Ice was the only peahen old enough to mate so I got eggs from her, but she didn't set them and the second clutch (three eggs) I tried to incubate but all of them were never even good. This year I am hopping for a better second chance. What is really great is Pip was a hen raised chick. She grew up free-ranging until we bought her as a yearling. Soo I am hopping that she will have better instincts for hatching her own eggs...Anyways that is my theory.

Alright so I should expect her to lay maybe late next week? Okay and also Pied x India blue= Peachicks looking like India blues but carying the pied gene right? Or do they carry the white gene? So wouldn't they have those white flights (that would be so pretty)? Just wondering not trying to say I will get lucky and have chicks this year...

Anyways I hope she uses the nest boxes...Or at least nests under them since she is the only peahen short enough to walk under there.

That's so awesome..
I did want to ask u, how long have u had peacocks..?

And about your large pen..love it, what are thosenpost you used..I see their not wood, and then u have the wire connected tomit, what did u use to connect the wire to the post and then put huge poles up and wood post and then placed netting over it, what is your netting used? Name and place to purchase, size of the holes ofmthe net?

Iam thinking now I want to move my set up further back and cut a tree down to 12 feet and enclose the tree in it, and build like a run in shed..in the future when I build it

Do I have to have to have doors on it, or just a shelter like thing?

Xoxo

Thank u so much for that, how can I find the name of what you used for the outer post?
So I can purchase

And thank u

Love your set up

Whoops forgot to ask u, the welded wire? Is that 2 inch squares.. Or what?

Because, I was thinking of cattle panels to adhere, or if I could find welded wire rolls but 6 foot height and then from where?

Advice really appreciated

Xoxo

Umm maybe 2 by 4...The welded wire we used is 6ft. We got our welded wire in Alabama (we are close to Alabama and they have better prices). My dad got the wire at a big feed store.

Lol thanks!

Today Pip was pacing around a bit. She is acting like she wants to get out of the pen so she can search the yard for a future nesting site. Ice did the same thing last year. I feel bad that their nesting places are limited...We are going to start adding more cover in places to make them have nice safe feeling nesting places. Dragon tried chasing Ice today, but she just ran off.
