Hi Peafowl friends .. Looking for some expert advice please. I have 2 three year olds , a black shoulder male and spaulding female . I have not given them any dewormimg meds , just continue to feed them medicated chick feed since they were born . I have tried once to give them the dewormer but am VERY intimated putting the syringe in their throats for fear of hurting or choking them. Besides, the male could be very aggressive at times and thinks we are on his same level - but thats another story. Will continuing to feed them medicated feed be sufficient? They are not free range, they have a large pen which is cleaned every single day to ensure it is safe and clean . What about dewormer in their water instead? I just want to keep them as healthy as possible.
Also, the female has laid quite a few eggs. Most of the time she shows no interest and walks away. This last egg I did see her sit a little longer but eventually left it. I just need to know if taking away her eggs ( because I just cant raise any more ) is cruel? I am EXTREMELY torn here and dont her to feel confused or most of all inhumane to take them away. Thanks so much for any advice, please , and thank you..

I'm not sure if the list is on here as well? but check out the peacocks only group on FB. there is a list of medications and dosing. and the the 5-1/ All in one powder to put in their water. Or there is a liquid dewormer to put in the water as well. you could always sell the eggs or chicks if you don't want anymore :)

thanks so much , I will.. I just dont have the time or resources to sell the eggs. My neighbor enjoys them so I give them to him to eat. I just wanted to know more so if "she" misses them and is taking them away "cruel" ? thank you !

darnit. lol. I'm in ND if you were close I was going to see if you'd sell me some eggs. :) If you did decide to advertise them in the group I know the NY area has a lot of members. i'm sure someone would want to buy them up :)

personally I just put the dewormer on some bread that the birds immediately devour.
As long as the wormer has not had time enough to soak into the bread to the " soggy" state they gobble it right up, as usual. Do this for 3 days, repeat in 10-14.
Valbazen and or safeguard is what we use.
The medicated feed only helps with cocci, valbazen and safeguard are pretty broad spectrum.
I know the way we deworm it is not an exact science/dosage but it works for us and the birds. ;)
Taking the eggs away is not cruel, she'll get over it in no time.

thanks so much ! I dont know I would do without this site and all the help from you and KsKingBee .. One of my babies ( female Spaulding) was from Mindy ( Dylans Mom ) . She gifted her to me since we had 2 chicks uniquely both born late in the fall and my boy needed a friend. She was my mentor and my Rock when it came to raising these 2 little guys . I miss her terribly !!! If anything happened to my girl Jackie ( my boy is Ari :loveas in Onassis ) I would feel like I did a disservice to her personally so it really means alot to me.. Any recommendations on feed for these 2 three year olds. I'm still feeding them a crumble ( not a starter ) , just not sure on % or protein, etc .. Thanks so very much !!
