Peafowl Varieties Chart

@DylansMom I'm so disillusioned - I was really impressed with your Spanish fluency!

Me too! I thought we had artists and linguists popping up ever where...

Apparently you didn't "Google Translate" my answer. At the end I apologized if my translation was incorrect and said hopefully someone who actually speaks Spanish would log on soon.

Didn't mean to disillusion any of you. I am Fluent in Sign language as my sis is deaf and I took 4 years of German in HS so Ich spreche ein wenig Deutsch.

Well I can read it without help, but to respond in Spanish, I would have tried a translator too :-D My French is waaay better than my Spanish, but these days I tend to use a translator just to get one more check on it before I hit the send button. Being an old fogey and whatnot.
But we definitely have an artist... and I betcha we have more people that actually do speak Spanish ;-)
The only reason I answered in English instead of fooling with the translator is that a lot of people are like me, they can understand more of the other language than they can actually speak. Since our new friend started right in with the "corrections" I figured he/she was reading the forum well enough to understand me... I hope :)

Duh, I just realized this wasn't obvious to everyone else (okay, Fogey brainfog). I read it as saying (more or less):

* * * *
Hi! (As) I'm new here, my apologies, a correction... [to the chart] A white peacock is a mutation of color, not of pattern, and attributable to a mutation of the color called (known as) jade.

Hi! I'm new on this blog, a spotted white peacock is a mutation of color, not (a model?) and color mutation known as (like) jade

I'm sorry, my English is poor.

* * * *

And I apologize for my pitiful Spanish

Note that Google translate and I do not come up with exactly the same reading of this, but my trust in electronic translators is not incredibly high. But maybe it's right and I'm wrong, who knows? Where are our "real" Spanish speakers hiding???

Google translate gives the first paragraph as "a patch white peacock" which I don't get -- I think it is just "white peacock" or "truly white peacock." And if it were pied, I think it would be pio... but maybe dialect... in the second paragraph, I'm pretty sure the author is talking about spotted peafowl, not sure if pied and silver pied are getting lumped together in the author's analysis.

Anyway, as I read it, our new friend @calin86 was looking at @MinxFox 's lovely chart and was taking mild (and very polite) exception to categorizing the white and silver pied birds as pattern mutations rather than color mutations, as he/she believes these to be color mutations.

I am really unclear on how this person sees that as related to jade/spalding/green peafowl, but he/she is perhaps trying to say that these things (white peafowl and spotted peafowl) originally came from a mutation related to jade peafowl?

Anyway, I hope our new friend sticks around and joins our conversations, and I'd be interested to hear more of why he/she thinks this, and also what his/her thoughts are about jade, since that part is very confusing to me.

Sorry for being so dense -- I just remembered that when I answered something over on UPA in French, somebody eventually got around to saying "What???" and then I had to go back and translate everything, and felt stupid for not doing it the first time. But my Spanish really isn't very good

AND there's a LOT of regional variation... especially here where I live.

Guess Spanish class does come in handy! Was able to say all of that in Spanish and respond without using Google Translate (except for one word).
