For the last week or so that we know of, we have a white Peahen on our property. It has slowly been coming closer to the barn and house. We don't mind it being here, but guessing it ran away from another farm in the area? Assuming a hen from pictures and it's tail is not a male like train. It seems to like cat food. Today it is hanging aroun the outside of our chicken coop. Will it hurt our chickens when I let them out to free range? Not sure if I should treat it like a "found" lost dog situation? It doesn't screech like a male peacock so assuming the hens don't do this loud behavior? We have a pond which I guess is where it is getting water or from one of
Horse troughs...I guess it can stay if it wants to be here...I do worry about it needed some shelter eventually in the winter..HOT in GA right now...

I was finally able to post a better view of this bird via Utube....Let me know what you think...Peahen? or possible young male...

She may have a nest near by somewhere, does she honk when she comes in to your area?
Does she look dirty?
Reason i ask this is cause my white hens get wet from the morning dew in the morning and rather than dry off in the sun like the rest of the peas they go dust bath which makes them muddy and when they dry they look dirt, great camouflage in the woods, i only see my white hens that are sitting do this not my younger white hens nor my blue hens.

Can you post a photo of her and we can tell you for sure she and not just a young male.

It is hot here in SET also been out working on a pea pen all day and i felt like my skin was burring from the sun once it got over me.

I was trying to upload a video I got and it's not uploading... Guess cause it's a video and not a pic?

o Would love is someone could answer some of my questions regarding Peafowl.....It has come even closer this week. And it seems fine when our chickens are free ranging. Wondering if it needs more companion ship from what I'm reading about them.....and do they lay eggs like our hens do? can you eat them? taste?

It looks to be a hen but then if it hatched last year it's train would not be real long yet so being it is hard to see i really can not say for sure.

interesting cause my hub just said, last night it "attempted" to be loud...so it may be juvenile..guess time will tell

Girls here can get loud , they just don't make the mating call like my Master P but do call like cats meowing, i got one that makes me laugh every time they call at the end of the call it sounds like they are running out of air and it sounds so pitiful but funny at the same time.
