Sometimes a bird will pull the stub itself but think of the stub as a straw to an open blood source, it needs to be removed or it will keep leaking.

Thank you. I would never have known. I probably would have left it, thinking it would heal on it’s own. I am so grateful for the knowledgeable people on this forum. When I started raising livestock 20 years ago, I didn’t have access to things like this and the learning curve was steep. Having people with experience to ask makes such a difference.

Yes. That’s what I had. And a couple of books.I know the internet was around 20 years ago, but I didn’t have access to it.
