I might suggest that you give vitamins with a lot of Vitamin D-3.. The birds need calcium and they can not process it as they don't have enough D-3 in their system .. this is when you have a soft shell egg and cant get them to quit doing this no matter how much calcium you give .
ok, thank you .
The calcium l I gave her tonight is by Spring Valley, Natural Calcium 600 mg. ( gave her two ) with Vit. D. being of the D3 form
(cholecalciferol ) 800 IU
Calcium being of
the carbonate form. ( reading label now )
How many days, how many times a day needed suggested ?

Checked my calcium bottle and it's 500 mg calcium and 400 iu D3. I also have a bottle of D3 and they are 1000 iu.

So then I did some searching and found one place that says the max safe dose of D3 in people is 4000 iu per day.

My entire bottle of D3 (90 softgels) is only only 90,000 iu, so I'm not sure how one would get to something over 400,000 iu. Is there something that I don't understand? :D

I'm not expert, but I have read in the AAAP Avian Disease Manual that too much calcium can cause gout, so I don't use it daily, every other day is what i usually do. I've also read on avianweb that other things, like disease and parasites can cause soft shelled eggs, so I always de-worm them if they start laying soft shelled eggs.

Something else someone said was that giving excess fat soluble vitamins, like D3, can be hard on the liver.

Again, not an expert, so do your research!

Thanks, am thinking along the same lines, something else is going on here with here.
Lot of rain as of late bringing up a lot of worms, will be treating for possible parasites and blackhead next.
All help and ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks to everyone !

On another note, is it true wormers cause infertility for up to 10 days and if so is this the case with all wormers or just specific ones?
