Recently I was hand feeding Ice (Blackshoulder peahen), and I noticed that she has what looks like dirt in her right nostril. I watched her and waited for her to drink but when she drank the dirt did not come out. Today she still has dirt in her nose. She doesn't act sick or like it bothers her. She still acts like her normal self scratching around in the leaves, being bossy to the other peahens, etc.

I was just wondering if you all think it is dirt for sure and also I was wondering how I should get it out? I don't want to hurt her but I want to know a good way to get it out so that she can breathe better (although she shows no signs of troubled breathing or panting). I have been staring at everyone's noses now but everyone else has clean noses.

Here are some photos:

It didn't photograph super well, but I am for sure that her nose has stuff stuck in it.

Thanks and everyone make sure you don't have to pick your birds noses haha!

Peggy had something like that and I thought it was interfering with his breathing. It looked like some dirt and feather bits had just formed a blockage.
I very gently took it out with tweezers. They were not sharp pointy tweezers.
I studied the other birds to see what things looked like in there to make sure I wasn't poking at anything that was supposed to be there.
He lets me handle him and hold his head steady, otherwise I wouldn't have tried it - does she let you handle her?

So...... if I'm understanding this, you basically Picked Peggy's Boogie for him? Boy has he got you trained well! LOL Just teasing!

I have had Ice the longest of all my peas but I didn't hand raise her. She is friendly to me but not friendly enough that I could see her holding still for me to pick her nose. I am suprized that Kathy said to leave it alone so I think I will just keep an eye on it. it doesn't seem to be bothering her.

My IB hen had the same in the past. Years ago she had it and after a certain time it was gone and now she has it again. What I could observe it is always in spring.
I don’t do anything as long as she feels healthy and I’m sure it will disappear again.
Regards
Reinhold
