. As I've said, our peahen just appeared in our yard a couple of years ago and she is just allowing us to come within 5 feet, is now living with the chickens, but I no way lets us touch her! Well, when she came out of brooding after a week, her eye looks like this!! Please, any suggestions since she isn't one we raised and won't let us near to touch her?? She means the world to us and we have worked hard to get this close
I'm guessing she might have gotten something in her eye, or gotten pecked or scratched somehow?
I think if it was a sinus infection her face would be more swollen. If you do a search here, you will see many threads about sinus infections and their treatment, with pictures.
If you could catch her, I'd suggest a gentle eye wiping/rinse. But since it sounds like you can't catch her (?), perhaps keep a close watch on her to see if this changes and if she exhibits any other symptoms (not eating or drinking, droopy wings, listlessness, etc.).
I'm sure some more experienced pea experts will have suggestions for you too!
Keep us posted.
If she were my hen I would treat her as soon as possible with one ml per day of Tylan 200 placed on small pieces of bread and thrown to her. Give one ml per day for about five days. I have seen this before in my own peas caused by chickens scratching up the bedding material and causing dust. Good luck.
I have on hand the injectable tylan 200 which I withdraw with a syringe and squirt on small pieces of bread. I use one ml each day for five days. Tylan 200 and dosage is what Craig Hopkins recommends for swollen eye/sinus infections. The Tylan 200 has worked great for me with what your hen has but what has worked even better is not allowing the chickens into the peafowl house where they like to scratch up the bedding and make lots of dust. You can find the Tylan 200 online and should have it in a couple of days or possibly have tractor supply order it for you. As far as using Tylan 50 instead of the 200 I have no personal experience so would not want to make any suggestions. You could google Craig and send him an email and ask him direct. Hope things go well for you.
