I totally get precautions... it's just that if I was in their shoes there's no way I would risk my child's life this way... any more than I would drop them off in a prison and say have fun... just doomed for something to go wrong you know?? I'm a paranoid nut when it comes to my kids, and that's sans allergies, can't imagine how much worse I would be if that was a factor.
But then my personal responsibility gene and absolute loathing for negligent and/or abusive parents kicks in and I get downright mad to see parents dumping the responsibility of keeping their child safe into the laps of others. And in this case not just into the laps of adults, but even into the laps of CHILDREN, for eight hours a day knowing perfectly well that there is no way in hades that this child won't be harmed at some point. These people are setting their child up for harm... and then when it happens will run from the responsibility of it... just as they are currently running from the responsibility of providing a safe haven in the first place.
But besides all this, it sets a example... one that later may be used to ban other things... there are severe reactions to lots of things... from bees to wheat... if one child is deathly allergic to bees will all children be forced to give up recess so that this child is safe AND gets to be treated just like everyone else? A child who's allergic to wheat (or milk or gluten or...) will all wheat products be banned? Good grief what about corn, or soy? Those two ingredients, unfortunately, are in just about every ready to serve food in our country... what the devil will be left to eat then? I know, I know, paranoid, tangent, slippery slope whacko... I know... but I can't help but wonder because I personally know children that DO have those types of allergies. Those parents don't freak and make demands, but that's not to say that another child, another family, won't. Particularly when there is this highly documented case where it was done already so they know just what to do to bring down the hammer. *sigh* I hope for everyone's sake that it never, ever, gets that far. Better still I'll hope for tolerance and/or medications to make strides to protect these kids so that this isn't an issue.
This school has banned parents from sending lunches, unless your child has an allergy. You MUST pay $2.25/day for their hot lunch. If it's anything like our school district's then this is just a very sick thing for them to do. Bad enough that the children who get free lunches are forced, by poverty, to eat it or nothing. But for the ones whose parents can afford to feed them healthy meals they should dern well be allowed to. They're claiming the reason is because parents are sending their kids to school with cokes and greasy foods and the school lunch is so much more nutritious. But after looking into OUR district's... using their own food pyramid... and after taking my son to the doc for bloodwork and and EKG after he fainted at school after their breakfast... well suffice it to say my kids haven't eaten another school lunch, and they haven't had blood sugar problems. This district might be far ahead of the curve, possible I suppose, but looking at the pic with it... tator tots, processed lunch meat, processed cheese, god knows how processed pears (never could eat them myself so no idea how they're made), chemical flavor and color laden milk... I'll give them points for the carrots but that's it. Parents could do a LOT better than this, and for less money as well. This isn't to do with nutrition, I believe this is about money. Ordering parents to pay them or their children starve is NOT cool. Hope these parents fight this with all they have.
I have 3 children on the Autistic spectrum...all of them had major problems with public school. Guess what? I decided that I, as the MOMMY..must do what I must do for my child to succeed and be healthy..which is not public school's responsibility..and not everyone else's concern or responsibility. ...no matter how much it infringed on my free time, my goals, or my pocketbook. Where there is a will, there is a way.
I find it repulsive that parents think it is within normal sanity levels to make the masses change for their child's safety. If you have a child, it is YOUR responsibility to watch them, NOT the govt, NOT the school system, NOT strangers.... YOU decided to HAVE THEM. What if public schools were not here? THEN WHAT?
ONE'S freedom ENDS when it DESTROYS the freedoms of EVERYONE AROUND THEM!
Teach them at home or find other resources where you can be involved to watch your own child. This owed mentality is ruining our country.
YOU COULD NOT PAY ME TO PUT MY PRECIOUS CHILD IN THE CARE OF GOVT AND STRANGERS IF MY CHILD HAD A LIFE THREATENING CONDITION WHERE THE WIND COULD KILL THEM!! IT IS SICK AND TWISTED TO THINK STRANGERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!
I have seen the village and I REFUSE to let it raise my child...

OOOOOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOO! You would kill me with that! I can't go any place where they have peanuts. The dust alone from the shells that they throw on the floor and stuff will send me into anaphylatic shock. Not to mention, my Service Dog won't let me in the door is she smells peanuts!
