Peanut butter/POP....how long does it take to kill? Responses please!

Old farm house... snap trapsw/pb in the livable part of the house... poison pellets in the attic & basement... air purifier after.
But be careful... the vitamin K treatment for your dogs is expensive! Never again will I have a "professional" (?) exterminator... I do a much better & safer job!

I'm a fan of Just One Bite, too, or there's another brand of the same poison. Worked wonders for me.

try making one or two of these traps, the simplest most effective trap I've used yet.

FYI the snap traps are the best but if you use sticky traps & you have a live animal pour olive oil on the traps where the animal is stuck then carfeully pry the animal off & release it or end it quickly.

sounds like you need a couple bucket traps. you'd be amazed how well they work. I use a couple style. one is a length of coat hanger made with a treat on the end. hang it over the center the bucket. if the mouse climbs up the bucket they usually jump at the food. they miss and fall in the bucket with about 6" of water in it. they drown. another style if the false floor. put a layer of sun flour seeds on the surface of the water. they jump in thinking they have an easy meal. if you use a tall bucket put against the wall and leave a ramp up right where the wall meets the floor where they travel. you'll love the sound when you hear " Kerplunk!"

on a side note the large sticky traps that come "Unfolded" are great for catching bats. I staple them to the top of the rear barn door at my place. seems like every spring I get one crapping on my hood. sure enough they get stuck when they land at the top of the door and go to climb out through the gap. I leave them there till dead then peel the trap off the staples and burn in the fire ring. you never know what nastiness them bats carry.

I use thoes black triangel shaped bait holders. You have to use a key (that comes with the holder) to open the lid of the holder and put a chunk of poison, I buy that green colored one. Close the lid and place in the coop in an area that the chickens cant get to but the mice can. I put the same in my barn too, heck my house/basement too for that matter. I feel safer putting the poison inside thoes containers

Sticky traps...caught just 1....we'll call that a tie.
Bucket traps Rodents 1 Me 0....though I did feel like MacGuyver while I was making them.
Poison.....WIN!
The poison is disappearing or being munched on, and last night was the first night where there was no digging out from under the crawlspace. I'm definitely hopeful that I'm winning the battle.
The irony is the neighbor who was worried the chickens would attract the rats (we're in the city, and because of this didn't get a permit and are going rogue style) also has a virtual rodent habitat in their backyard, complete with rotting wood piles, and a perimeter of weeds all around plus an old rotting structure attached to the house, with some parts mowed where they managed to keep it under control. Why are people such idiots?

I'm not saying they WON'T attract rodents, but I'm being as proactive as possible, and they're giving them as much opportunity to set up a whole village of rat condos.

I tried the snap traps. We live in an old house in town that has half crawl space and half stone wall basement. So every fall when it starts to get cold we end up with a couple mice. Once we had a rat between the walls. We could hear it chewing the wood at night. I didn't sleep for 3 weeks. Couldn't catch them in snap traps, caught one in glue trap in the basement. We put poison in the craw space. It finally got quiet. We keep poison down there now. I also tried the glue trap in my kitchen cause we had one smart mouse we couldn,t get in the snap trap. Kept taking the peanut butter. I caught him in the glue trap. My husband was at work, so I had to get rid of it. I scooped it up in the dustpan and took it to the front porch and hit it with the broom. The broom stuck to the glue. The mouse was dead, but I couldn,t get it off of the broom without touching it. So I ended up throwing the whole thing, broom and all in the trash.
I was going to try the peanut butter blasters cause I'm worried about the chickens attracting more mice or rats. But now I'm not so sure they will work after reading some of these posts.

Several years back I started to find mice droppings in my house. We started setting out traps (the snap kind) and yes we did get mice. There were a lot though. Long story short, I ultimately called an exterminator and for $60 he came out and baited my attic, basement, and shed with a solid food type bait. Within a week or so, no more mice. They eat it and die. Every fall, when the mice are getting ready to find warmer digs, I have him come out and bait all the usual places. I have never had another mouse in my house. I live in the country on acerage and to me, $60 per year for a GUARANTEE of no mice, is soooooooooooooooo worth it. Call a pro. You won't regret it.
