I still have not learned how this forum thing works so please bear with me.
I sometimes share a whole grain bread and natural peanut butter (no salt, no sugar, no other oils,) sandwich, with the chickens they seem to love it! I forgo the jelly, I'm sure they don't need the sugar either but they do like banana. I hope I'm not making them ill?

Your chickens are getting excellent treats! My chickens get whatever is left over and we don't eat. Everything from Mexican, to unknown substances. They have eaten Styrofoam ice chests, so, I no longer worry about what they eat.

I don't worry about what they peck up, I don't want the guilt of killing them by poison, or trying to fix what I messed up; life is tough enough when you are hunted without friends trying to kill ya! plus I'm getting free eggs I want some good stuff in there.

I usually walk through the ingredients in any human treats I want to give our girls decide if the treat is safe. I make our bread, so I know it doesn't have odd stuff in it. Our peanut butter is ... well ... crushed peanuts. That would mean a peanut butter sandwich would be a great treat since all the individual ingredients are safe.

It sounds like you've done much the same thing. It must be fun to be one of your chickens!

well thank you, they stick around and come running when they see me, one has even tried to walk to work after me, I had to chase her back.
I supplement their foraging with oatmeal, rice, corn, sometimes chopped up left over meat, but in small doses. I usually utilize my leftovers but after that, I throw it out for the birds. I hate to see waste.
I don't knowingly feed them chicken. ( i'm not a big chicken or fowl eater.) I feed sandwich from my hand and they will wait their turn, for the most part, the Roos are better then the hens at waiting. Other foods I throw out in the yard, it is fun to watch them play keep away when they grab a piece and how they move from the patch of food they are eating to the next plop because it just dropped. They are funny creatures. All 4 hens are now leaving eggs in the box on my stoop, they really are quite sweet, not bad for feral chicken. I am learning a lot.

Peanuts are a legume. Raw legumes (like soy beans) are poisonous (slightly so) to most animals, chickens included. If the goobers have been roasted before they were ground into a paste (and only heat expelled peanut oil added) I see no cause for alarm.

Too much of a good thing is never good. Both peanut butter and bananas are high calorie treats. So a little goes a long way.
