Our youngest hen named Peanut laid a egg that I just don't understand how this happened. Has anyone else had a random 3x the normal size egg? We have been giving all our birds a lot of protein.

A double yolker most likely. Our Barred Rock Maude has laid two or three of these so far. It's funny considering our Jersey Giant lays these itty bitty starter eggs.

Thats a double yolker. All Thalia laid for the first two months of laying were doubles. Crack it open. They make pretty cool dippy eggs!

It could have 3 yolks--When our RIR started laying about once a week we would get an egg with 3 yolks and one time Peep layed a double yolker inside a double yolker. That's 4 yolks. And 2 eggs but inside. But that egg was hudge we couldnt even fit it in a jumbo carton.

I saw an egg this big in another post here at BYC... They video taped cracking it open and there was a WHOLE other egg, shell and all inside. I think the title of the post was 'egg in an egg' or something like that and I can't remember what topic it was posted in... I'll double check my previous postings and see if I can find it and come back to edit this message with link for you...
