I have a bag of pearled barley an i was wondering if I could grow some fodder with it? Or do i need a certain type?

Typically you'd want feed grade whole barley. Pearled might and might not sprout, it all depends if the seed was damaged while removing the hull.

I couldn't find any statistics on how many damaged seeds to expect, so best guess is that it hasn't been too deeply studied.

Pearled barley is generally way more expensive than feed whole barley, so I suspect those who would typically test choose not to as low risk+low cost makes sense. But if you have it on hand, I don't see an issue with trying it.

I don't know if "pearled" barley is the same as "parched" barley but that's what I feed and it will not germinate.

Okay well I already set everything up but im just gonna see for myself how it goes. And than just get the proper ones. Also what about oats? I can get the right ones from a feed store right? I've never done this before so when I go to the feed store I can get what I need the first. I just happened to have a bag of this type of barely.

Yeah, just ask for whole oats. Not steamed, not rolled. I feed them and they do germinate.
