Peat Moss as Bedding?

Can peat moss be used as bedding in the chicken house? Is it absorbant? does it work well? Does anybody use it?

When peat moss gets wet, it tends to stay wet.

Peat moss is a great option for bedding and sustainable. It actually decreases microbial load in poultry litter.

I have done quite a bit of research on peat moss bedding for horses. The science is fascinating. Here is an interesting article:

I believe that peat moss is actually very much NOT sustainable.
