Pecked out eye

[Tropical Chickies]

My young hatchling has had one of its eyes pecked to death. What the heck do I do?? I will be putting it in it's own area away from the others. I'm sure it's eye is goner, but it is really infected looking. Is there anything I can do at this point. I wish I had noticed some signs of the other chickens giving it a hard time earlier, but I figured the mother hen would protect her baby from the rest of the flock. I was wrong!!

So sad. Chickens can be so mean to each other. I would put some plain Neosporin on it and give her some poultry vitamins to give her a boost. Hopefully someone will come along with more expert advice.

Don't exclude the mother as a possible culprit. We have a hen that is an abusive mother. We take all the chicks away from her now.
