All 4 of our birds have started laying. The Golden Sex links started several weeks ago. Our Rhode Island red and Easter Egger just started this week. We never had an issue until this week and its happened several times. We go to collect the eggs and there are several broken ones. They are being pecked, not stepped on. Any reason why this is happening or if there is anything we can do to prevent it?

If in fact it is your chickens pecking at them you may want to address a couple of things. Increased protein helps curb the need to eat eggs. Roll away nest boxes may be in order for your hens. Consider to the possibility that something is getting to them if that is possible.

Those are a couple things off the top of my head I can think of that might help. Wish ya the best.
