Pecking habit to break?

Could they be sticking their heads through a metal fence or similar? I have two hens that looooove to stick their heads through the metal deer fence and look tattered around the neck and breast because of it.

Unlikely. We don’t have anything like that and I have actively watched two of them peck at others breaking the feathers. I a, trying to get them to stop now!

SBaltz, I wonder if you were able to get any resolution to this issue or advice to share.

I have the same circumstances with one of my hens. I have checked multiple times for lice and mites, they have lots of different things to entertain them, free range, no roos, etc. My chicken (Georgia) is the lowest of the pecking order and I've seen the higher up ones peck at her when she goes for food if they're eating (so I provide multiple feed stations). But I wonder if it's happening more at night. I just bought "Pick-No-More" and am going to give that a go as well as upping the protein to 18%.

Unfortunately no, I have not found an answer, and only after they molted were they "pretty" looking. My Bhrama has no neck feathers it seems, and one of our Golden sexlinks has been picked to the point where she is either exhibiting severe lowest pecking order behavior, or is ill. But all of them are pecked cleanly on their necks, fronts and chests. it's like they line up and pluck each other's feathers- but no feathers lie around for evidence.

A lot of people swear by them. Some people worry that it hurts them, but it has to be less than feathers being plucked?
