10 week old Australorp pullet with a pecking injury. Started as a small peck- typical of what our 3 year old/top of the pecking order hen has been occasionally doling out to the pullets.

Yesterday it looked like the australorp had some extra skin on her beak. I noticed our same aged Wyandotte peck at her beak yesterday, but it doesn’t seem to bother her.

That said, it looks kinda swollen today. I have lots of meds but I’m not sure what to use here, if anything!

Pics are kinda blurry- hard to hold and snap at the same time.

Looks like she's got a little chunk missing.
Normally, I don't do much with something like that, but it sounds like the older girls have targeted that area. If it's swelling, I think I would probably flush out any debris and put a little BluKote or Pine Tar on the wound.

Do your youngsters have places they can hide or get away from the adults?

I’ll flush it out and use bluekote- thanks!

They’re actually separated except for supervised mingling. It’s just that when I do mingle them, there are 10 little ones running around with 5 hens so it’s hard to see every interaction!

When they’re together the littles have perches to fly up to and logs to hide around. They move much faster than the hens but sometimes the queen just does.not.stop pecking at them! I’m hopeful that once I reduce the number of littles next week, the remaining ones will be able to mingle more without being such an overwhelming invading force. (I’m giving away a cockerel and three pullets to a friend that lost a chunk of her flock recently).
