The bluecote is probably irritating her wound, clean that off pat dry and apply neosporin in a thin layer with a cotton swab and not your finger. And leave it alone. You will need to reapply till wound is healed.

Yeah, but that was for the oil, not any kind of wound care. You probably didn't really harm her so don't worry.

I just applied straight cornstarch (no water or anything) and that seems to be helping. I've been cleaning up blood sprayed all over the floor and wall from her vigorously shaking her head all day long, after scratching open the wounds

OK - head cleaned from cornstarch, Blucote and remaining blood on feathers to the best of my ability (not sure how someone can get all that stuff out) and applied Neosporin with a q-tip (after I blow dried her feathers, which she really enjoyed!) While I was doing all this, these small black dots caught my attention. Are these just blood spots or do I also have a mite or lice problem on my hands? I'm looking at the section of "skin" that is still stained purple. Thanks again for all the help and support I have been offered thus far!

Having you tried rubbing it off, it doesn't come off it's a scab. Shouldn't take much pressure to kill a mite.

Yes - this is VERY helpful! OK - after reading other posts, it seems that I was working off of some misinformation. I had read awhile ago that Bluecote was what to use in this situation so that is really the only thing I have on hand. I can run out and get some cornstarch now. How do I apply it? Probably need to mix with water, no? I will order vetericyn now. What type of antibiotic ointment? Like Neosporin? And what about all that Bluecote all over her head? Thanks again!!!

Unmedicated Neosporin or generic brand is fine, load it on because she’ll try and get it off. Put a mirror in near her cage, it will keep her distracted.

if Henrietta is still on the warpath you may have to separate her so she gets knocked off the top of pecking order, or rehome her.
