I have a mixed flock that were all raised together. And usually it is very calm in the coop. They are 10 weeks old. We just lost one of our flock 2 days ago. For the last 3 days of her life she was separated yet they could still see each other. Sadly, 2 days ago we lost her. Things seemed to be pretty status quo in the coop until today. They all seem to be "irritated " with each other. I thought pecking order was already established. I figured it would have changed with the loss of Yeta when I removed her from the coop. So why are the so crazy today?

Chickens can be so confusing sometimes.

It could be that they know she died and so they are reestablishing their pecking order. Was she high in rank? They could also just be in a funny mood today, especially if temperature or schedules have changed at all.

I'm sorry to hear about you losing your chicken. I hope the others remain healthy and happy.

Best of luck!

Thanks. I am not sure. Thought she was somewhere in the middle. She was 1 of 4 EES and the other 3 are definitely in the top. So possibly.
