Pecking Order?

I have three Silver Appleyards, one drake two ducks. They are about five months old and free range in the backyard. The larger female seems to be the dominate duck with small pecks and the smaller duck just shakes it off. The drake always tries to mate with the larger duck and I haven't noticed him trying with the smaller. Today I noticed both ducks with a hold on each others neck, of course, with the Drake watching. It lasted for a minute or so then they released and went back to grazing side by side like nothing happened. I assume this is normal?

Hi! Yes it is normal and is just pecking order. Until springtime he will only mate with the larger female who seems to be his mate. When springtime comes he will mate with both of them
